George Hoffmann started his medical career as a researcher in biochemistry, then spent over 12 years in clinical pathology (8 years as an assistant laboratory director in a 1000 beds hospital in Munich) and another four years in industry (as a vice president of research and development in laboratory automation). He is currently a professor of clinical chemistry at the University of Munich, Germany, adjunct professor at the University of Virginia, USA, and president of Trillium GmbH, Grafrath, Germany. The company provides consulting and computer services in the areas of clinical laboratory planning for scientists, laboratorians and industry. Trillium is derived from the Latin word for "three" and stands for these three groups of partners.
